Age: 194
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Yuzuki is not typical of the type of woman you'd expect to find in the twelfth division - the image that most people get of the women there is short, chubby, glasses, geeky... Zuki is only two of those things. Standing at a whopping height of five feet eleven inches, she's quite tall, and she hates it. Her body is slender, finely muscled, and moderatley attractive, though all three of her more feminine aspects are lacking. Her bosom is rather small, a matter of embarassment for her, and her hips are barely noticable, lacking a curve that would make her more attractive. Her legs are also too lanky for her own liking - not to mention scarred, though from what she can't remember. Due to those scars, she avoids shorts or skirts by all means.Personality:
Zuki's hair falls to the middle of her back, a deep raven-colored black that she's rather fond of. Her eyes also mirror this color, her pupils having very, very little difference when compared to her irises. Her face is heart-shaped, with a promeninent widow's peak, sharply angled bangs falling over her right eye, though she tries her damndest to keep them tucked away behind her ear. Her hair is usually tied back in some manner, be it a braid or a pony tail or a messily done bun, but occasionally she'll allow it to flow freely, though she'll get tired of it and tie it back up within minutes.
Zuki wears a pair of thin-rimmed glasses with oval frames when she's in the lab or doing paperwork. It's not a matter of her having bad vision or needing reading glasses... it's more of a psychological thing. When she puts the glasses on, she becomes more serious, and therefore, more intelligent, and gets things done efficently and effectivley. Her mouth is rather small, and varies vastly in the emotions that it portrays - it can be sneering, scowling, grinning, anything, and all of the expressions fit her face very well. Her nose is sloped, narrow and thin.
Zuki's clothing is typical of shinigami, the standard shihakusho. When she's in the lab, however, she's usually barefoot, and her sleeves are rolled up to her elbows, at the least. Her uniform varies slightly from the standard grade - being seated allows her some wiggle room. Her pants are tighter around the ankles, another side effect of her not wanting people to see the scars on her legs. Her sleeves are constantly creased from where she rolls them up. She wears her identification badges around her neck, tucked down the front of her shirt and secured with a metal chain. After all, not just anyone can get in the 12th division's lab.
Zuki's personality is that of a sceptic. Tell her anything straight and you're liable to get a string of reasons why you're wrong, and once it's proven that you're right, she'll grudgingly apologize. She's naturally curious and inquisitive - she'll constantly ask questions, which some people find annoying. She also likes to go off on tangents that normal people wouldn't possibly be able to understand, just to see the clueless expressions that go across their faces. Since she does like to ask questions and constantly contradicts people, she's viewed as rather annoying to those people that don't like her.History:
However, for those people that can appreciate her attitude, she's quite the entertainer. She can find a hundred ways to embarrass a person and they not even know it, more so if she's around her division 12 colleges. She doesn't understand most crude humor, though, and has to have a bunch of things explained to her when she does choose to go on a 'girl's night out', which is very rarely.
Zuki doesn't exactly fit in with the other female shinigami, her love for both learning and science rather alienating her from them. She's not the type to go to the spa, though she has been twice. She doesn't take vacations. She doesn't ogle men, preferring her experiments. She has a hard time believing in what she can't prove, and thus, is a major skeptic of 'true love.' She prefers to ignore men in general, though there is that womanly part of her that wants to be swept off her feet.
She doesn't like idiots, not even slightly, and frankly, when she's not drawing a very specific diagram, her drawing is worse that Rukia's. She hates admitting that she's wrong, and thus, when she is wrong, she'll fight it. She's got a bit of a pride problem... She can't stand to be disrespected. She usually looks on all other people with respect, but once you piss her off, you're screwed. She holds grudges for the longest time you could imagine, and she'll torment you until she thinks you've repented enough for her liking.
Zuki is highly self-conscious about herself, both in physical and mental terms. She hates rejection, and thus, the knowledge that her body isn't perfect and appealing worries her. She also worries that she isn't as intelligent as she needs to be.
She can lie straight faced and very believably. She's also quite sarcastic, sometimes rude, and usually blunt. She's also terrified of fire.

LIFE (No recollection)
- Yuzuki was born in the warring states' era of Japan, in a village that's an exact copy of the one in her inner world. She was the daughter of the priestess, something that would usually be seen as a sin. However, since her mother had been raped by bandits, there wasn't much they could do. She grew up with a relatively easy life, considering the period she lived in. Even as a young teen, she was able to see spirits, though the suspicious nature of the villagers kept her from admitting it out loud - she didn't want to call any more unwanted attention to her mother, and back in that day, the people weren't above burning people alive if they thought they were evil. And of course, seeing the dead was an evil gift, in their eyes.
DEATH
- It was this same thing that ended up being her demise. A hollow attacked the village, and the common people, unable to see what was happening with their low spiritual energy, panicked. Yuzuki took charge and started throwing rocks at the thing, which no one else could see. When the hollow found the person it was looking for, it devoured their soul, and then vanished, apparently going off to find another family member's soul. The villagers turned accusing eyes to Yuzuki, only twenty at the time, and she was accused of calling evil spirits to them. She was burned alive for her sin, which she had never committed. However, the elders of the village took pity on her - they stabbed her in the heart before the flames got too intense, then put out the flames. That's why only her legs are burned - the fire never got higher.
DRIFTING
- No shinigami appeared immediately to send her off to soul society - she drifted for what felt like forever. When she started to feel pangs of hunger for what she'd figured out was her mother's soul, she left the village, trying to save the only woman who had ever loved her. She wandered into another village, where sure enough, another hollow attacked, this time wanting to eat her instead of someone else. A shinigami appeared and dispatched the creature, and someone finally saved her - hours away from becoming a hollow. Almost too far gone to be saved.
REBIRTH
- Yuzuki was brought to Rukongai district 79. You know the type of place that is - crime ridden, nearly impossible to survive. That's where she got her attitude. She met her best friend Manami while they were there, and the two remained together for years, somehow surviving in one of the worst districts. It was about nintey years after they'd met that Manami's elder brother found her, and once he'd decided that Yuzuki had a decent spiritual energy, he took them both back to Seireitei to be trained in the Academy.
ACADEMY
- As happens too often, best friends can come to the Academy and find themselves with different interests. Manami found she had an aptitude with healing, and Yuzuki with science and swordplay. Yuzuki soared through almost everything, especially her two interests, while Manami only excelled in healing. They ended up drifting far apart, nearly losing contact, being just distant friends until they graduated. Manami found new friends, ones who shared her own interests, and Zuki found herself immersed in science and swords.
DIVISION
- Once she graduated from the academy, Zuki knew exactly which division she wanted to join. And she knew she'd have to impress them to get in. She started off just talking to people, getting into brilliant conversations that she throughly enjoyed. It took less than two days for her to be offered an unseated position in divison 12, her dream come true. She obviously accepted.
SEAT
- Wanting to be in the lab was something that Zuki had wanted for a long, long time. However, in the state that she entered division 12 in, she would never be allowed to enter, no matter who she charmed or impressed. So she did the next best thing - she got herself a seat through her achievement of Shikai.
SHIKAI
- She achieved her shikai through the usual method - meditation. She was 103 years old when she managed this - it had been thirteen years since she'd been in district 79. It took a long time and lots of harassment on her part to her zanpakuto, but she eventually learned the name, of all places, in a spa when she and Manami had gotten into a tiff. She was so angry that she actually achieved shikai, though afterwards, she forgave her friend for 'pulling it out of her.'
LAB
- The division 12 lab is a matter of pride. It takes serious knowledge and skill to get permission to be inside, and most unseated officers aren't allowed. Most of the seated officers are allowed to monitor projects going on, calling for the aide of a select few unseated members if they so desired. Yuzuki, however, has a rather high responsibility regarding this lab - she listens to the potential projects that could go in, and says no or maybe. Usually no. If the idea gets past her, it goes to the captain for supreme approval.

Zanpakuto:
A wakizashi, and thus being longer than the typical katana. The blade is about two and a half feet long, and made of a slender, light metal that has yet to be identified to the common shinigami that have seen her fight. However, since she is part of the 12th division, she has had it identified - it's a material similar to hematite, though hardened enough to be metal instead of just stone. Since it is made of that material, which she hasn't bothered to name or anything of the sort, her blade, instead of having the dull gray sheen of steel, is a shining black, though it's not quite possible to be mistaken for a bankai. The sharpened edge does have a metallic silver color, though it's just about an eighth of an inch thick, making it mainly black. The guard on her hilt is about four inches tall, from base to top, and makes a shape similar to that of how an eye would be drawn. It has a series of carvings on it, though they're mainly swirls and shapes of no apparent coherent design. It's made of the same material as the blade, which is also the material that the handle is made of. As thus, her entire blade is made of one solid piece of metal, the only addition being the black silk cloth that covers the handle so not to cause her to hurt herself.[/size][/blockquote]Zanpakuto Spirit:
Kuroi Kumori is a scarlet child. She's seen as a small girl, most often, though her age varies depending on the level of stress that Yuzuki feels at the time of contact. As the level of stress increases, her age increases, though nothing really changes about her behavior or actions. She doesn't speak often, but when she does, she speaks softly and in riddles. She's usually seen in a rather revealing dress, for someone of her physically young age, and has what appears to be a mechanical collar around her neck. She rarely smiles, instead giving the feeling that she knows some horrible, awful, depressing truth that you don't know.Inner World:
Yuzuki's inner world is rather dark. It has the outward appearance of a human village during the warring states' era of Japan, though the village is constantly under the watch of the cresent moon at midnight. If you look into the sky, you see that the moon is a brilliant crimson color. There's a stream built through the village as well. Built on a hill, there's a shrine at the top of the hill that Zuki has never been too - when she starts climbing the stairs, they move with her, causing her to stairstep in place until she quits trying. The village is surrounded by fields, though if you start on the paths to them, you'll be stopped. Until she figures out what she needs to do to get to the fields and the shrine, she's rather trapped in the village, wouldn't you say?Release Phrase: Kuroi Kumori, Kuikorosu. (Black Shadow, Devour.)
Shikai Appearance:
The blade grows exactly six inches from it's sealed form, and the black silk wrapped around the handle of the blade turns scarlet.Shikai Abilities:
Bankai Appearance:
- kuro joukei - dark sight
-This ability is more of a physical attack than anything, requiring a swing near the opponent's eyes. It can cause temporary blindness, if taken the right way, but it's also known to backfire and blind Zuki herself, so she avoids it.- karasu hane - raven wing
- This ability also has it's own style of working. It's rather simple, when explained. The sword flies to whatever Yuzuki is staring at, then back to her hand. However, once again, she avoids it, due to the fact that it can be intercepted and thus, leave her weaponless. She's most likely to use this one, if she uses any of her abilities.- shinku kinu - crimson silk
-Zuki has only used this attack once, and she swears that she'll never use it again. It unwraps the silk from around the handle of her blade, using it as a sort of restraint against the enemy. However, the one time she used it, she sliced her hand open on her sword, and wrapped herself in the silk, resulting in major embarrassment and a loss on her record.
Not achieved yet.Bankai Abilities:
The blade actually loses three inches, making it more manageable for Zuki. It gains that sheen of a bankai blade, and the guard shrinks while the blade slims. The silk around the handle is now a splotchy mix of scarlet and black, blending and mixing in with each other, seemingly appearing to move and blend on their own constantly.
Not achieved yet.Sample Post:
- kuro koutai - black shift
- This is merely a one-on-one fight method - it completely blackens the battlefield. As such, it renders most fighters highly handicapped, including Zuki herself.- shiku kyohaku - crimson star
- An explosion of her own kido. The blade has to have the enemies' blood on it, be it even a drop, but depending on the level of Zuki's stress, this attack can do -major- damage. The worse off she is, the more damage the attack does.
Another day, another group of idiots to sit and listen to. Zuki sighed, sitting up and rolling her shoulders as she flipped her feet out of her bed. Barefoot, she went to her closet, grabbing a clean uniform before heading to her bathroom, which she had somehow managed to get without killing anyone, and took a shower, trying to remind herself that she needed to hurry.
She got dressed, towel-drying her hair until she was satisfied with it and then tying it back into a ponytail. She sat down on her bed again for a moment, wiggling her toes on the cold floor and thinking. There was only one proposition this morning... maybe they'd be quick about it. And sure enough, once she'd had that thought, she knew it would take them forever. She sighed, standing up and grabbing her shoes as she headed down to the Division 12 conference room, grabbing her bagel from their small kitchen on the way there.
Shoes in one hand and bagel in the other was how she always arrived to the conference room. The unseated members of her Division tensed at her arrival, like they were worried. She didn't bother to fight down the smirk that came to her lips, tossing her shoes on the ground by the door and sitting cross-legged in the chair that had been set up for her.
She could tell immediately that this would be a no. They were too nervous, too unsure of themselves. And the idea itself was absolutely preposterous! It was an idea to devise a method to revert Hollows back to their human spirit forms. She sat for about ten minutes, listening to them talk. Once she was satisfied that she'd listened to enough to say no, she turned the chair and started eating her bagel.
It was never a good sign when she started eating her bagel. All five of the youngsters that were there sagged visibly. She emptied her mouth, then raised her eyebrow at the boy who had been speaking. "Alright, you. Questions. How are you going to test this device? Do you have some secret Hollow friends that would be willing to let you test them? Because last time someone came up with this idea, they died trying to test it. You fools didn't research enough." She said, leaning back in her chair.
She looked at the five of them, one of which looked ready to cry. She hadn't been that mean, had she? Very little sarcasm, only calling them fools... It wasn't like she'd insulted their mothers or anything. She sighed, shaking her head. "Obviously, kids, this is a no. And if you'll excuse me, I have to write a report on this." She said, hopping out of her chair and grabbing her shoes, tossing her half-eaten bagel at one of the boys in the group.
She got to the lab, getting inside and sighing. The quiet atmosphere was welcomed. She made her way to her desk, writing the report she had just mentioned, detailing the 'proposition' and her denial of it.
Just a typical morning in the life of Yuzuki Kanamade, ne?
